How One Man and One Sprayer Saved Boston From a Rat Invasion

Galvin Murphy Sr. has seen it all. He started Yankee Pest Control in 1990 and has become a major presence in Boston. He’s also witnessed a lot of development in the downtown area, and with this construction come increased rodent problems.

“Major development was going on around the Charles River, with high rises being built and green spaces planned. But the rats were on the run and built lots of burrows in the dirt mounds surrounding the project. At one point, we counted 50-70 burrows.”

A competitor had the account but could not get control. After a year of trying, the developer and construction company called Galvin to see what they could do.

“We knocked it out of the park. We quickly got control, which was a major relief to the client,” said Galvin. Based on this success, Galvin secured an ongoing contract with this client.

Galvin has 5 BurrowRx sprayers at his pest control company. He services construction sites, shopping malls, hospitals, and parking garages. The canal that runs through Boston increases rat pressure, and the only way to keep it from exploding is to use the BurrowRx.

Having 5 sprayers was a major investment, but Galvin says it’s paid off in the long run: it’s even saving him money.

“The cost of using BurrowRx is minimal compared to rodenticides and bait stations. The only expenses are gasoline and smoke oil. If you use it regularly, it pays for itself in less than a year. That’s a no-brainer for us.”
